Privacy Policy
WaterReminder for iOS and Apple Watch · Effective date: October 1, 2026
WaterReminder is built so that your data stays yours. The app has no accounts, no ads,
no analytics, and no tracking. This policy explains what data the app handles and where it lives.
What data the app stores
- Hydration log — drinks you record (type, volume, time), your daily goal,
custom drinks, streaks, and app settings.
- Goal calculator inputs — if you use the optional goal calculator (weight,
sex, activity level, climate), these values are used only on the device to compute a
suggested goal and are not saved. Only the resulting daily goal is stored.
All of this is stored on your device and, if iCloud is enabled, synchronized
through your private iCloud database (CloudKit) so your iPhone and Apple Watch stay
in sync. The private iCloud database is accessible only to your Apple ID. We — the developer —
have no access to it and operate no servers of our own that receive your data.
Apple Health (HealthKit)
With your permission, WaterReminder writes the drinks you log to Apple Health
as water intake. It does not read your Health data: it never accesses entries made
by other apps or devices. To keep Health in step with your log, it only checks the water entries it
wrote itself.
- What is written: the drink's effective hydration volume — the logged volume
adjusted by the drink type's hydration coefficient, and never more than the volume you
actually logged (for example, 250 ml of coffee is recorded as 225 ml of water;
alcoholic drinks are not recorded). The original logged volume and drink type are kept in the
Health sample's metadata.
- Who writes: WaterReminder on iPhone or iPad writes to Health. The
Apple Watch app does not write to Health itself — drinks logged on the watch are written
by your iPhone. Each drink is a single Health entry that is updated when you edit the drink.
- No Health data in iCloud: the app never imports anything from Health, so no
Health data is stored in the app, synchronized through iCloud, or sent anywhere else. Only the
app's own hydration log is synchronized, as described above.
- Health integration is used only to provide the app's hydration-tracking features; it is never
used for advertising, marketing, or data mining, and never sold or shared with third
parties.
- You can turn off access at any time in Settings → Privacy & Security → Health →
WaterReminder. Turning off access stops new entries but does not remove entries already
written; see Data export and deletion below.
What we do NOT collect
- No account or registration — we don't know who you are.
- No analytics or crash-tracking SDKs, no advertising identifiers, no tracking of any kind.
- No location data, no contacts, no personal identifiers.
Purchases
Premium subscriptions and the Lifetime purchase are processed entirely by Apple through the
App Store. We never see your payment details. The app checks your purchase entitlement
locally through Apple's StoreKit framework.
Notifications
Hydration reminders are local notifications scheduled on your device. They are not sent from a
server and involve no data transmission.
Data export and deletion
- Export: you can export your full hydration history as CSV or JSON at any
time from Settings (Premium feature). The export is generated locally and shared only where
you choose to send it.
- Deletion: deleting the app removes its local data from that device. To also
remove synced data, delete WaterReminder data in Settings → Apple ID → iCloud →
Manage Storage.
- Health entries: first turn off WaterReminder's Health access in
Settings → Privacy & Security → Health → WaterReminder on each iPhone or iPad where you
use the app (or delete the app there) — otherwise it re-creates entries for drinks from the
last 7 days. Then, in the Health app, tap your profile picture → Apps → WaterReminder → Delete All
Data from “WaterReminder”.
- Because we hold no copies of your data, no request to us is needed — the data is under your
control.
Children
WaterReminder is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect any
personal information from anyone — including children.
Changes to this policy
If the app's data practices ever change, this page will be updated and the effective date
revised before the change ships.
